That same week my husband's computer got stolen from his office his brother's car got stolen, his uncle's entire house was robbed, and his parent's next door neighbors were robbed just yesterday. I've been in a pharmacy in the center that was robbed while I was in it. Four times I have known people whose taxi drivers from the airport held their bags hostage unless they paid $100 USD for the cab ride, normally $25. A friend of mine had her necklace snatched right off her neck in broad daylight and i have had four friends robbed at gun point after leaving clubs. My husband's dad was also robbed at gun point in front of his house in a suburb. I and everyone I am talking about live in very nice neighborhoods no where near villa 31 or the so called crime areas. If you come to visit for a week you will probably be fine but I can tell you that it is really only a matter of time before you are robbed or threatened. My husband and I are leaving this city for the countryside pronto. The crime here is atrocious.brookehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17695214571274289840noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20660264.post-16994631046981537382010-09-05T21:51:00.641-07:002010-09-05T21:51:00.641-07:00very interesting your blog, thanks a lot because o...very interesting your blog, thanks a lot because of the suggestions and advices!secretbestsavedhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12659846723477864169noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20660264.post-69404677833363900222009-12-04T13:38:42.390-08:002009-12-04T13:38:42.390-08:00So sorry to hear that u got robbed.. True, I had luggage with me and looked like a tourist, but that was unavoidable--I was moving in. He did not resort to violence, although he threatened it and pretended to have a gun under his jacket. I was shocked at his brazenness and it certainly has given me a new outlook on being cautious in this city. I recommend not speaking with strangers or even allowing them to get too close to you. Buenos Aires is different than anywhere else I have been in being unable to even take pictures in public without being very cautious.Jacob and Kalli Hillerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16733331398084455444noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20660264.post-48439563172989469572009-09-20T10:35:10.837-07:002009-09-20T10:35:10.837-07:00I just visited Buenos Aires, and despite the warnin...I just visited Buenos Aires, and despite the warnings, I managed to have no problems. The only true danger I was told about by the locals was La Boca. I walked through La Boca and even had a cop approach me with a what the hell look because I had my camera stashed under by jacket. Yes BA has it´s really poor or ghetto areas but so does every other place. I live in Santiago Chile and the same goes. Both are relatively safe cities. Just stay smart, and don´t expose yourself and your chances of having something happen will diminish greatly. Try not to act or look like a tourist, it will help you greatly.Unknownhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17198927917015369070noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20660264.post-48293882448715356952008-12-20T18:02:00.000-08:002008-12-20T18:02:00.000-08:00Alan, Bs As does not compare to ANY Euopean or Ame...Alan, Bs As does not compare to ANY Euopean or American city, crime here in Bs As is much worse.

Trusting travelers that may feel "advebturous" may end up paying for it with their lives.FerFALhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07578136334334588454noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20660264.post-90166961986165527172008-10-28T23:19:00.000-07:002008-10-28T23:19:00.000-07:00Speaking as an international student who's been to...Speaking as an international student who's been to and from Villa 31 twice without incident, I can honestly say that while Buenos Aires does suffer from a lot of crimes of desperation, you should be fine if you keep your wits about you. Be wary of scams and pickpockets when you go into touristy areas, be wary of suspicious-looking people around ATM's, banks, etc... With that, so long as you're staying in a decent place and don't present yourself as an easy mark, everything should turn out more or less perfect. It's when you get into a situation that things go sour; for example, kids addicted to Paco will take your money and then stab you out of spite. There's no real motive for a lot of the violence that gets tacked onto otherwise simple robberies. People are just desperate and desperately angry.
I wouldn't recommend going into any of the Villas without someone who's respected there, either. That's just asking for trouble.Alex in Buenos Aireshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04017761639312373211noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20660264.post-43924480309560484402007-07-10T21:05:00.000-07:002007-07-10T21:05:00.000-07:00I realize this post is getting a little long in th...I realize this post is getting a little long in the tooth now, but I just came across it and wanted to add in my 2 cents. I was just in BA in May for the second time. I stayed in a B&B the first time in Recoleta. This time I rented an apartment in Palermo from ...BytArgentina. I must emphasize that my experience was the polar opposite of yours. I had no problems at all with the apt or Byt.

I am a bit puzzled at your stance on the safety of Buenos Aires after reading quite a few of your posts. You pretty much rave about your visit and then you have one post that says Buenos Aires isn't safe and cite a few random incidents as why. I don't get it. I walked the streets of BA all hours of the day and never felt unsafe. There is crime wherever there are people, but if you are going to say that BA isn't a safe place to visit, you'd have to include the majority of large American cities on that list as well, where you are as likely to get not only mugged, but murdered to boot.leshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05874100005606717269noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20660264.post-1171402898484858622007-02-13T13:41:00.000-08:002007-02-13T13:41:00.000-08:00BA is most safe than where you live.BA is the seco...BA is most safe than where you live.
BA is the second capital most safe in latin america.
Only you must read the statistics about criminality and then say me !
BA is a megalopolis, 13 millions of inhabitants.
I trust that you post is very tendencious !!ATLANTUShttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05077280007055754535noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20660264.post-1170354078662724882007-02-01T10:21:00.000-08:002007-02-01T10:21:00.000-08:00what a load of rubbish!i am from emgland, but have...what a load of rubbish!

i am from emgland, but have been in BA for almost two years, and buenos aires easily as safe as london, and most other major european capitals too, in my opinion.

it is just like any other major city, with its good and bad parts.Alan Patrickhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02010150251459844577noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20660264.post-1170012833837751112007-01-28T11:33:00.000-08:002007-01-28T11:33:00.000-08:00Buenos Aires is pretty unsafe, I know because I am...Buenos Aires is pretty unsafe, I know because I am from there, but I don't think it is that bad, you just need to have 4 eyes when you go out!
